Do This In Remembrance Of Me, Part 32A: The Parts of the Liturgy of the Eucharist

As we continue our journey through the Mass, we come to the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Growing up as an altar server, the preparation for the Liturgy of the Eucharist was always one of the most actionpacked moments of the Mass. There are several things to bring to the altar and an order to how they should arrive. As we have noted, every part of the Mass has a background and a significant meaning, even some of the quick (and sometimes quiet) gestures in this part of the Mass. There are special cloths, shiny chalices, candles, bread, wine, and water, among many other things. All of them will serve a purpose, and with the words of Christ, the bread and wine will become Christ himself — his true Body and Blood— his true presence with us!

Father Sean's Weekly Message

March 22, 2024

Dear Friends in Christ,

On this Good Friday, let’s reflect on the betrayal of Judas that put this all into motion. Jesus foretells his own betrayal. It is important to remember, Judas was chosen to be a disciple and Jesus loved him. The short encounter between Jesus and Judas, Jesus is saying, “I already know what you are planning to do; I know your problems, your evil intentions, your secret sins. Yet still I am here with you.” Since he already knows, why continue down this path? Why do we? It is not too late! He will never give up on us!

Let’s remember what these days mean, “I slept on the cross and a sword pierced my side for you who slept in paradise and brought forth Eve from your side. My side has healed the pain in yours. My sleep will rouse you from your sleep in hell. The sword that pierced me has sheathed the sword that was turned against you."
